VERPSTĖ / Studio

One maker. A collection of individual works.

VERPSTĖ is a single-maker woodcarving workshop in Lithuania. Each distaff and decorative carving is shaped and carved by hand, with its own arrangement of geometric and floral motifs.

Wood and form

The current collection is carved from linden, with mahogany also used in Light Diamond. The wood type and size are listed on each work’s page, so you can compare pieces before choosing.

A closer look at the carving

Sun rosettes, openwork and repeating geometric cuts give each piece its character. Open the photographs on a work’s page to examine the carving in more detail. These are individual works: the photograph shows the piece offered for sale.

Tradition and interpretation

The collection draws on the forms and ornament of Lithuanian distaffs. The symbols guide introduces traditional interpretations; it does not assign a single fixed meaning to every modern carving.
